The regeneration in Druids Heath is going to take a minimum of ten years to complete.
Meanwhile people are living in poor accommodation and uncertainty.
Even though we know there are regeneration plans we do not know what will happen when and whose turn is next.
To negate the feelings of anxiety, limbo and decline experienced by residents and the community in Druids Heath as a result of the regeneration, Druids Heath & Monyhull Forum proposed ‘The Meanwhile Principle’ to Birmingham City Council officers at a meeting in April 2023.
The Meanwhile Principle reverses the lack of care and investment in the area and stops the estate going into further decline.
It means investment as part of the regeneration not just for the long term but in the short term.
We are happy to say this principle was accepted.
We hope to see:
Health projects responding to anxiety and depression
Social activities through Art, heritage, growing, reading & more
Continued involvement of the community in the regeneration plans
High quality stop gap housing provided for those who want to stay
Better maintenance and repairs to make this a better place now.
